The Student Achievement & Strategic Success (SASS) Division addresses the multidimensional needs of medical learners to ensure that they achieve their full academic potential. SASS identifies the opportunities for growth in each medical learner, provides various opportunities for skill cultivation, and attends to a student’s inner self so that they are empowered during their journey in medicine. It is our goal to support students as they adjust to the new requirements of medical education.
Medical students are smart. You have to be to get into medical school, and many of our students have been excelling academically throughout their college careers. But studying in medical school takes a different kind of discipline and our staff can help you develop learning strategies to meet the rigors of our medical school curriculum.
Every medical learner has unique needs. The SASS division includes a diverse array of targeted programming to meet medical students where they are, with options spanning from individual learning strategy consultations to large group guided board prep.
The SASS office is spearheaded by Assistant Dean of Preclerkship Education, Dr. Shanna Williams, and experienced faculty member with a background in medical education. She is passionate about assisting medical students in the development of their professional identities.
SASS’s in-house learning strategist, Ashley Crisp, provides students with a thorough understanding of best practices in pursuit of productivity, effective learning strategies, and efficient study skills.
Julian Green, SOMG’s behavioral health consultant, is a licensed therapist in private practice. He offers students support with individual therapy, family therapy and performance coaching. Julian embraces holistic wellness practices and incorporates them into all aspects of his services.
Maya Sausi is the manager of the SASS office and comes from a extensive background in mental health crisis intervention and medical education. She cares deeply about student success and improving student outcomes.
