Predicted Inclement Weather:
SOMG Closed Until 12 PM Wednesday, January 22
Tuesday, January 21 | Email from SOMG Leadership to Students, Faculty, and Staff
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Given the potentially treacherous travel conditions tomorrow morning, the USCSOMG leadership team has decided to operate M1 and M2 classes remotely on Wednesday, January 22nd until noon. We are currently planning to have Anatomy Lab for M1s starting at 1 pm, although you may complete an absence request if conditions do not allow you to arrive by 1. Specific instructions are being sent to students and faculty by the Medical Education team on how to login to WebEx for the morning sessions. Faculty and staff may work remotely.
For M3 and M4 students, clerkship directors will notify you if lectures or learning sessions are re-scheduled. During times of inclement weather, students’ clinical responsibilities must be balanced by concerns for safety. The final decision about travel to inpatient and outpatient facilities should be made by students based upon their assessment of current travel conditions.
For clinical faculty, please note that students should be excused and should not be made to feel guilty in any way for missing clinical duties on Wednesday morning. Thank you for your understanding and please reach out to Dr. Sarah Payne-Poff or Dr. April Buchanan with any questions.
As a reminder, the Inclement Weather Policy is linked here: https://www.sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/medicine_greenville/internal/_policydocuments/uscsomg_hr200.pdf
Outpatient Responsibilities: In general, during time of inclement weather, students should be present to carry out their clinical responsibilities whenever the outpatient clinic/community medical practice to which they have been assigned by the clerkship director is open and operational. Students should make every effort to determine the operating schedules of these facilities during times of inclement weather and be present, when possible, during those hours when the outpatient facility is operational. Most Prisma Health medical offices communicate delays and closings via WYFF4 (http://www.wyff4.com/weather/closings) and Fox Carolina (http://www.foxcarolina.com/closings).
Inpatient Responsibilities: In general, during times of inclement weather, students should carry out their clinical responsibilities in inpatient facilities to which they have been assigned by the clerkship director. Students should therefore make every effort to be present at these facilities, when possible, during times of inclement weather.
M3 and M4 students should complete the Absence Request form Linked HERE and click Hazardous Weather if you will be absent. We also ask that you notify the clerkship director, clerkship coordinator, and clinical supervisor for your rotation that you will be absent; if you have any concerns that you are not supported in your absence request, please notify Dr. Payne-Poff sarah.payne-poff2@prismahealth.org .
Stay warm and stay safe!

Thursday, January 9 | Email from SOMG Operations to Faculty/Staff
Dear Faculty and Staff,

The school building will be open if you do choose to come to campus but please exercise caution. Please also note that the gates to the parking garages will be restored to their normal down position for enhanced security when fewer individuals are present on campus.
For our clinical faculty, please see the policy link and information below sent to our M3 and M4 students. Please note that students should be excused for this absence and should not be made to feel guilty in any way for missing clinical duties on Friday.
