Dr. Wright serves as the Associate Dean for Program Assessment and Accreditation for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville where he is leading the newly created Office of Institutional Data, Evaluation, Accreditation, and Strategic Planning. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and teaches physiology and pathophysiology and conducts research focusing on assessment practices and curricular design in medical education.
Dr. Wright earned a B.S.Ed. in Health/Fitness and an M.S.Ed. in Exercise Physiology from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He helped start a hospital-based cardiac rehab and wellness program where he worked as an exercise specialist for seven years before earning his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Dr. Wright joined the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville in 2011 as a founding faculty member. During his time at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, he has served in the following leadership roles: founding Course Director, founding Year 1 Academic Director, Chair of the Program Evaluation and Assessment Subcommittee, and Director of Assessment prior to the Associate Dean role. He was a part of the team that helped develop an internationally recognized program of assessment and international award-winning curriculum.
Dr. Wright has been recognized for his contributions and has received an Outstanding Teacher Award, Outstanding Service Award, the Dean’s Award, and elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He has also completed the Association of American Medical Colleges Leadership Education and Development Certificate Program.
