Bio
Background: | I obtained medical training [MBBS] from one of the premier medical Colleges in India- JIPMER, Pondicherry. I trained in Pediatrics at Brookdale University medical center in Brooklyn as an intern, followed by two years of residency at the University of Buffalo Pediatrics program. I trained in nephrology for three years at University at Buffalo and have been a clinical Assistant Professor since 2007. I was awarded a University salary line in 2012 in order to conduct research on behalf of UB and have been active on the teaching faculty at that program before accepting a position in 2017 at GHS. |
Teaching Interest(s): | I am interested in developing tools that can help educators assess performance quantitatively in order to help mark the progression of expertise from novice trainee to expert. My area of interest is in percutaneous needle biopsies and a simulator system that can help define the progress of a trainee. I am a Royal College of Physicians [RCP] trained medical educator and am particularly focused on small group settings and the use of social media platforms to enhance medical learning. I have advised and mentored more than 10 medical students, residents and fellows in nephrology. |
Research Interest(s): | My primary research interest has been in the development of hypertension particularly in obese children. My current interest lies in developing biomarkers to predict hypertension and target organ damage in this population. I am currently involved in a study looking at Micro RNA as a potential biomarker to predict outcomes and morbidity related to hypertension. I am also interested in contributing to the science behind the pediatric guidelines for management of hypertension in children. My previous work involved projects looking at microalbumin excretion in hypertensive obese children, markers like MicroRNA in obese children and the potential to predict hypertension early; and the use of Doppler studies in obese hypertensive children. These have been regularly presented at national conferences [Society for Pediatric research, American Society for Pediatric Nephrology (ASPN) and American Society of Nephrology]. I have been part of a Communities of Excellence group at a major University, looking to develop novel technologies for use in obese patients and I have experience in working collaboratively across departments as a member of multidisciplinary and translational research groups looking at problems from different perspectives. My other research interest is in developing simulation technologies to improve Resident and Fellow training in procedures. This body of work has been extensively published and I have presented this work at national meetings in the past. |
