The College of Information and Communications (CIC) invites applications for a nine-month professional-track faculty member to begin August 16, 2026. We are growing our course offerings in the areas of Corporate Communication and Leadership. As such, we seek applicants who can teach and develop classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Sample courses of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Corporate Communication
  • Organizational Communication
  • Leadership and Change Communication
  • Corporate Social Responsibility Communication
  • Corporate Identity and Branding Communication
  • Corporate Reputation Communication
  • Employee Communication
  • Communication Training & Consulting
  • Instructional Communication, Training, & Development

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching
  • Participate in shared governance and service activities

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or higher in mass communications, journalism or a related field by the start date of employment.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of two years of professional experience in mass communications, journalism or a related field.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Teaching experience is not required, but desired.

The University of South Carolina recognizes the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence. Via this Presidential-funded hire, the School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SJMC) is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor whose research focuses on artificial intelligence in the contexts of mediated communication.

Possible research areas include but are not limited to Artificial Intelligence in the contexts of:

  • Extended reality (VR/AR/MR)
  • E-gaming and/or video games
  • Data mining
  • Web 3.0
  • Computer vision
  • User-facing bots
  • Large language models
  • Image and video generation
  • Blockchain, ad verification, and/or smart contracts
  • Software development
  • Emerging content production tools and platforms

The new hire will join a collegial and ambitious faculty—a group of scholars who are helping spearhead the University’s innovative work as a Carnegie Research 1 institution. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will be able to contribute to the school’s reputation by publishing research in top-tier journals aligning with one the SJMC’s core research areas of advertising, journalism, sports media, public relations, and mass communication. The expected start date is August 16, 2026.

Required Education and Experience

  • D. in a communication related field by the start date of the position. ABDs will be considered, with the Ph.D. required at the time of appointment.
  • A well-established record for publishing digital communication strategy/analysis/content creation research that advances the department’s profile at the nexus of artificial intelligence and mass communication (at least 5 years for Associate Professor rank or at least 9 years for Full Professor rank).
  • At least one stream of research with artificial intelligence as its core, and a demonstrated track record or potential to publish research contributing to the school’s reputation in one of its core research areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise for securing external research funding.
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The School of Information Science (iSchool) at the University of South Carolina (USC) invites applications for a full-time professional-track faculty position to begin August 16, 2026. Appointment may be at the Teaching Assistant Professor or Instructor level, depending on qualifications and unit criteria. The successful candidate will teach courses related to user experience research and design; the social and ethical dimensions of AI and data analytics; cybersecurity in organizational contexts; information integrity and media literacy; and the role of data and information in shaping policy, organizations, and society.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses, with opportunities to teach at the graduate level. Courses may be delivered in face-to-face, online, or hybrid formats.
  • Participate in shared governance and service activities.

Required Education and Experience 

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Information Science or a closely related field by the start date of employment.
  • Minimum of two years of professional or academic experience in a related area such as information integrity, user experience research/design, data ethics and policy, organizational communication, or the social impacts of AI and cybersecurity.

Preferred Qualification: 

Teaching experience is not required, but desired.
