Student Ambassadors

Dorothy Smith Library Student Ambassador Program

The Student Ambassador Program cultivates a cohort of student employees who serve as ambassadors for University Libraries, connecting their peers with the full range of library collections, services, and resources. These student ambassadors are trained to lead tours, staff outreach tables, support library events, and provide peer-to-peer guidance within library spaces. Through this experience, ambassadors build strong communication and leadership skills while gaining valuable on-campus work experience.

The program also strengthens the libraries’ ability to reach students and increases awareness of the many resources that support academic success. University Libraries continue to evolve, offering innovative services, technologies, and expertise that many students may not expect. As a result, many students, especially first-year students, remain unaware of the breadth of support available to them. Peer-to-peer engagement is a particularly effective way to reach students, and the University Libraries Student Ambassador Program empowers students to serve as trusted connectors between the libraries and the student body.

The University Libraries gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the Dorothy D. Smith Charitable Foundation, whose investment has made the University Libraries Student Ambassador Program possible. We welcome contributions from others who are interested in supporting our efforts to raise students’ awareness of all the ways the libraries can support them, those who wish to support professional development opportunities for University of South Carolina students, and those who seek to support the University Libraries at our points of greatest need.
