Election Day Is Not a Holiday
Posted October 22, 2008
This is to remind you that Nov. 4, Election Day, is no longer a State holiday. It was dropped when the State holiday schedule was changed in 2001.
State Regulations, however, do allow for employees to be granted "voting leave." University Policy HR 1.09, on the web at http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf, states:
“Leave for Voting
1. An employee who lives at such distance from the assigned work location
as to preclude voting outside of working hours may be authorized a maximum
of two hours of leave with pay for this purpose.
2. An employee working at the polls during an election must be on authorized leave.”
Visit the Holiday Schedule webpage for a list of the University's remaining 2008 holidays. The 2009 Holiday Schedule will be posted as soon as it is approved by USC's Executive Council.
