Receive E-Mail Notices of Emergency Weather Advisories

The Division of Human Resources offers e-mail notices of emergency weather advisories affecting the Columbia campus community.

Advisories deal with schedule changes resulting from hazardous weather situations. Only Human Resources can post messages to this distribution list. Please do not attempt to reply to e-mails that you receive from the Advisory Listserv.

You are encouraged to subscribe to this service with multiple e-mail addresses to insure receipt of messages at work, at home or via mobile devices that have e-mail capabilities. To learn how you can verify whether your cell phone or pager carrier can service this type of e-mail, see Text Messaging Setup.

To subscribe, send an email message to listserv@listserv.sc.edu with the following text (and only the following text) in the body of the message (you can copy and paste the command from this page into your email message):

    Sub Advisory Yourfirstname* Yourlastname**

*Substitute your first name here. **Substitute your last name here.

    Example: Sub Advisory John Doe

You don't need a subject in the subject line.

You also can subscribe from the listserv web interface at http://listserv.sc.edu/archives/advisory.html, where you select the "Join or leave the list" link.

Please note that you will be sent a confirmation message when you join the listserv. You must confirm you are joining in order to activate your subscription. This is an automatic message and you will not be able to read the entire text of it if the confirmation is being sent to a cellular phone with limited character text messaging. In that case, to confirm your subscription to the ADVISORY Listserv you can reply to the message and type "ok" (without the quotes) as the text of your message. This procedure will work with any mail program that fully conforms to the Internet standards for electronic mail.

If you have difficulty subscribing your cell phone or pager e-mail address, send a request to Debra Allen at debraa@mailbox.sc.edu to add your e-mail address to the ADVISORY Listserv. She will need your cell phone or pager number and the name of your service provider.

For more information about University policy during hazardous weather, please check the Weather & Emergency Information page or the Hazardous Weather and Emergency Leave Policy.
